Trust GXT 363 Headset - Review
Trust is a Dutch company founded in the far distant 1981 ; specializes in peripherals for consoles and computers, with a high price / performance ratio. Over the years the company has experienced several internal revolutions, but the target of the products has always remained the same. In the vast catalog of Trust there is certainly no shortage of Headsets designed for the most demanding players but who do not have large numbers. It is the case of these GXT 363 which can boast very interesting features offered at a more than reasonable price.
The technical data
Trust declares these technical data for the GXT 363 :
• Virtual
7.1 surround sounds for a realistic sound experience
• Powerful
50mm active bass vibration speakers units
• USB
connections for high quality sound and voice
• Comfortable
mesh earpads
• Integrated
remote control for volume control and mute
• Tangle-free
nylon braided cable (3 meters)
• Illuminated
sides and microphone
We can also say that it has closed Over-ear pavilions (they
completely cover the ear) and have an impedance of 32 Ohms .
These are excellent premises but how do they actually sound?
The field test
The first thing to do once the headphones have been inserted
into our PC, is to download the Drivers in order to take advantage of the
peculiar characteristics of this model, such as 7.1 surround.
Before trying them, we let them run in with a mix of musical
genres for at least 10 hours: classical music for dynamics, Jazz for analytics,
without forgetting Pop, Rock and Hip Hop.
The first hard test we did was with music : the Trust GXT
363 proved difficult to tame. Using a flat EQ, the only genre that made a good
impression is Hip Hop . The others, like and above all the Jazz , need a fine
equalization to obtain a decent compensation in the medium and high
frequencies.
In flat mode the absence of the treble is noticeable,
nothing annoying anyway. The acoustic scene returned is good even if the
analytical component that allows us to distinguish the individual musical
instruments is missing. For electronic music, on the other hand, there are no
problems.Very good reproduction of low frequencies, especially those below 120
Hz, highlighted by the vibration function .
We then moved on to the cinema, which we can listen to in Stereo or 7.1
Surround by enabling the headphones through the light setup program; among
other things it also manages, in a completely unofficial way, the Dolby Atmos .
In stereo they work well, they are fast and return ambient noises very well,
although to get a good vocal timbre and a greater boost in the higher
frequencies, it is necessary once again to fix them with an equalization
(nothing too difficult).
The LED lighting gives that extra touch, plus it is well done.
In films that have 7.1 audio tracks, however, the speech is
different . It was very difficult for us to perceive that position of the audio
that is expected: although certain tracks were a revelation. Obviously, the
post production management in the laboratory of the sound positioning algorithm
counts a lot and the single loudspeaker mounted in the pavilion does not help.
Delay management alone is not sufficient to ensure proper audio position. If
you buy them for this reason, you might be disappointed.
A mention should be made for the music tracks in 7.1: we
were really impressed by how the Trust GXT 363 manage this type of flow ,
returning an incredible spatiality and a precise positioning that we would have
expected to find only in some more famous films.
Although it is not so obvious, it is in the game that these
headphones give their best , returning a considerable involvement, especially
due to the vibration. Spatiality and positioning are also better than we
expected, given the disappointment with 7.1 cinema. The microphone returns our
voice in a sufficiently clean way and without echoes, even if the distance from
our mouth is about 10 cm.
Appearance and Materials
The remote also cuts a great figure, and is also easy to use by touch.
Right out of the box (rather sparse), the Trust GXT 363 made
a good impression : the materials used are not so cheap, including the nylon
cloth cable and the remote control. The lightness is good, given the size of
the headphones, and does not tighten at all, making it very pleasant to use
even for long sessions. The appearance is not very original, but the lighting
of the LEDs is really well done and returns, once turned on, a very captivating
image. The remote control has the basic controls: vibration mute, volume,
microphone mute and lights deactivation.
